Arizona The official flag of Arizona consists of 13 alternating red and yellow colors. There is a 5-point star in the middle of the color blue. It was adopted on January 25, 1917.
About Arizona:
Often referred to as Italy of the United States, Arizona is located in the southwestern region of the United States as shown in the Arizona Map. As the 6th largest state in the country by area, Arizona is also the 14th most populous state. Phoenix is the capital of Arizona as well as its largest city, and is on the map of Arizona. Arizona is comprised of 15 counties. It is also known as Grand Canyon State in the world.
History of Arizona
Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, Europeans began arriving in the area in the 16th century. Spanish monk Marcos de Niza, who made contact with the natives in 1539, was the first European to reach the state. In 1752, Spain established fortified towns in Tubac and in 1775 in Tucson. With Mexico gaining independence from Spain in 1821, the area that now includes Arizona became part of the new nation's Nueva California Territory. It is also known as Alta California. After Spain's defeat in the Mexican-American War, the land was ceded to the United States in 1848 and in 1863 it became a separate territory. On February 14, 1912, Arizona became a state of the United States and was the 48th state to be admitted to the Union, thus adding Arizona formally to the United States of America. During the American Civil War, Arizona was a Federal Territory. During World War 2, Arizona was also home to German POW camps and Japanese-American prisons.
Geography of Arizona
Arizona covers an area of 113,990 square miles. it shares borders with the US states of New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and California and shares a similarity with Colorado. it also shares international borders with Mexico. Southern Arizona has a desert climate, where summers are very hot while winters are mild. About 27 percent of Arizona is covered with forests. The state is also dotted with mountains and plateaus. Humphreys Peak is the highest point in the state. Pine forests, Douglas fir and spruce trees can be found in the northern part of the state.
Tourist destinations in Arizona
The Grand Canyon is one of the most popular tourist attractions and is known for its breathtaking scenery: the Tumacacori National Historical Park, the ruins sanctuaries of the three original Spanish colonial missions. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, people will encounter about 30 different species of cacti. Saguaro National Park, Petrified Forest National Park, Bisbee, Canyon De Chelly National Monument, Havasu Falls, Jerome, among others.
Transportation in Arizona
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the 7th busiest airport in the world. Another popular airport is Tucson International Airport. Bus routes are provided by Greyhound lines serving Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, Yuma and several other areas. Valley Metro Rail connects Phoenix with Tempe and Mesa. The northern part of the state is served by Amtrak Southwest Chief. Texas Eagle and Sunset Limited serving South-Central Arizona.
